In the spirit of celebrating great stories well told, Abstract Magazine has officially partnered with the ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase, Hawai‘i’s largest annual film festival solely dedicated to presenting independently produced short films at the Honolulu Museum of Art's Doris Duke Theatre.

2015 marked ‘Ohina’s 15-year anniversary and our creative staff collaborated with the brand by creating a pop-up issue of Abstract that doubled as an extended program guide for their event; this year’s theme being “film noir.” This guide book included a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking process, interviews with actors, cinematographers, editors, FX artists, essays on local theatres, the “film noir” genre, and more.

More than 400 guests turned out over three nights for the 2015 ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase where we distributed the publication, and we additionally circulated copies of the guidebook throughout our usual distribution locations across Hawai‘i. Since the success of this year’s event, ‘Ohina has become the official film partner of Abstract Magazine; we’re looking ahead to see what next year’s event, theme, and publication will bring!
